SOBA was originally established in 1991 and as a non-profit organization in 1994.
The Society is open to all adults and welcomes new members.
The gallery is located on the corner of Calhoun and Church Streets in historic
Old Town Bluffton in the Gallery Row district.
Gallery hours are 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday through Saturday, 11:30 am - 3:00 pm on Sunday.
There is at least one participating artist on duty to assist you during your visit.
During any particular show approximately 100 original art works will be displayed.
As art is dynamic the show is changed every four weeks. Out of state visitors are always welcome.
THE CENTER FOR CREATIVE ARTS:
In addition to the 1,200 square foot gallery, SOBA has created a learning center where SOBA members
provide professional art tutoring for local school students October through April.
This is a no-cost program extended to the students and school district.
For adult continuing education in the fine arts field, the Society's outreach program schedules guest speakers who
specialize in a range of particular art forms. The Society also offers adult classes year round.
The Society of Bluffton Artists promotes a public interest in, and an appreciation of, visual arts in the community.
SOBA assists artists, at all levels of development, enhancing their artistic abilities in the visual arts.
Welcome to the Society of Bluffton Artist's web site. The Society of Bluffton Artists is operated by artist members. Art classes are available at the Society's Center for Creative Arts, as are demonstrations throughout the year by proinent artists.
The SOBA Center for Creative Arts had 9 talented students in the 1st week of SUMMER ART CAMP. The first day started with a scavenger hunt and then drawing what they saw. Then a day of cartooning followed by fashion & fabric, collage, and ending the week up with graffiti. See info on upcoming workshops on the Class Schedule page.
The Society of Bluffton Artists is pleased to announce the 2014 Naomi McCracken Scholarship Awards going to two very talented student artists. Each year SOBA awards scholarships to deserving graduating seniors from Bluffton High School who have been accepted to an accredited art college and plan to major in the visual arts. The first place winner is Mirco Cavallarin who is planning a career in graphic design. He will be attending USCB for a year and then will attend Winthrop University. Maria Garcia is the second place winner. She would like to be a fashion photographer and also plans to attend USCB for a year and then Winthrop. They were judged based on their body of work and interviews with the SOBA scholarship committee. This young gentleman and lady are inspiring and are sure to be successful in thier next level of artistic endeavors. Congratulations to them both!
